Teaching Assistant

 

 

 

 

In the Fall Semester of 2014, I had the honor of working alongside Dr. Deborah Van Duinen as her teaching assistant for Hope College's class in Content Area Literacy. I supported students throughout the semester, learned from Professor Van Duinen about the experience of teaching at the college level, and regularly responded to student work. I organized field placements for students in local schools, attended class at least once a week to guide discussion, and offered my own perspective on the material covered in the course.

 

 

I learned a lot from this experience about the many layers of teaching. I am thankful for the time I spent with Professor Van Duinen and this class, and for the way it helped me think about assessment, grading assignments, facilitating discussion, and drawing out students' strengths.
