I had the privilege during June and July of 2014 to work on an undergraduate research project under the supervision of Hope College Education professor Dr. Deborah Van Duinen and with a fellow Hope College Education student, Krista Luedke.

Our project explored the topic of adolescent boys' literacy practices, and how these practices contributed to their literacy identities both in and out of school.

Much of our research in June and July was a text analysis of novels popular with adolescent boys. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by JK Rowling is a book we included in our study.

Elizabeth Blanchette, Krista Luedke, and I had an amazing weekend at the National Council of Teacher of Engish Convention in Washington, DC, in November 2014. It was an incredible privilege to present our research at an undergraduate research session during the convention.

This is a photo of Krista, and Professor Van Duinen and me after Krista and I presented our research to a group of teachers at the Michigan Council of Teachers of English Conference in East Lansing, Michigan, in October 2014.
